Hi, my name is Maya. I grew up in Bangkok, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and I am Malaysian-Sri Lankan. I have two older brothers, so I grew up in a close family environment. I am currently studying a Diploma in Early Childhood Education in Melbourne.
I have around 3 years of experience working with children through volunteering at my church Sunday school program, where I helped care for children aged 1–12 years almost every Sunday.
In this role I supervised children, helped organise snack times, learning activities, games and crafts, and supported the children during lessons and play. I also helped teach Bible stories and activities that focused on values such as kindness, respect, empathy and helping others, and helped guide the children as they participated in these activities.
Through my studies I am learning about child development, play-based learning, and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF). These frameworks support children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development, helping them learn through play while building confidence and independence in a safe and supportive environment.
I have a Working With Children Check and HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting certification. I am patient, responsible, reliable and attentive, and I enjoy helping with activities, homework, routines and creative play.
I understand how important it is for parents to feel comfortable and confident with who is caring for their children, and I always aim to create a safe, caring and supportive environment.
I would love the opportunity to meet your family and see if I’m the right fit for your children!
